1906: Riverview Community Church was organized and members of the congregation built the original building.
1960s: Riverview joined the Southern Baptist Association
1972: Rev. Gilbert Adams begins as pastor. (Retires 1980)
1980: Pastor Shahn Wilburn is called as pastor in October
1981: Riverview Baptist Church becomes an Independent Baptist Church Annual Homecoming begins Adult Choir begins
1983: Land was purchased at the present site, with plans to build a larger facility
1984: On May 27th the new building was dedicated, debt-free to the glory of God and as a testimony to the congregation who accomplished the construction
September 30th, Ricky Brown becomes our full-time Minister of Youth and Music
Thanksgiving Prayer Vigil begins
1985: AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. II Timothy 2:15) program begins for ages three to senior high in the enclosed picnic shelter. It is now housed in the multi-purpose building S.A.L.T.
(Senior Adults Living Triumphantly) ministry begins
1987: October 25th the
new 500 seat sanctuary , complete with classrooms was dedicated, again, debt-free and constructed by the congregation
1989: Rich Powell becomes our Associate Pastor of Youth and Music
1992: Memorial Day Services begin
1993: March - Riverview started multi-service format 8:30 a.m. Worship Service(First Light) and 11:00 a.m. Worship Service
1994: Dedication of the first phase of the multi-purpose building (gym) Jefferson Christian Academy (JCA) opened its doors in August of 1994 offering grades K-4 with 3 teachers,1 principal, and 25 students. In the 1995-96 year the school expanded its grades to offer K-12. The 2000-2001 year has grown to offer K-12 with eight teachers, one lead teacher, and sixty-seven students.
1996: Dr. Ed Watke becomes our Associate Pastor in December. Mike Mithchener becomes Minister of Outreach
and Rodney McLean becomes Music Minister
1997: Under Dr. Watke's direction, the Discipleship Program begins Dedication of second phase of multi-purpose building (fellowship hall)
1998: Mike Mitchener is ordained. He was called to pastor Osceola Baptist Church, Brown Summit, NC. Ward Harris becomes Youth Director
2000: Wilmar Wegner becomes our Associate Pastor of Senior Adults. Terry Easter becomes our Associate Pastor of Music. Pastor Shahn Wilburn celebrates 20 years as pastor of Riverview Baptist.
2001: Held first Homecoming Service in our gym with nearly 900 in attendance
David Ring, nationally known speaker, preached to 600 people on
October 22nd.
