STATEMENT OF MISSION AND PURPOSE
.
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
The
educational programs and curricula of Riverview Baptist School of the Bible
have been carefully designed to offer traditional Christian higher
education. Combined with the Ministry in
local church assembly, RBSB programs are tailored to meet the individual
needs of the busy vocational Christian worker and dedicated layperson
alike. Any individual who desires to
begin, further, or to complete his/her formal Christian theological education
will most probably find a program at
RBSB’s conservative, evangelical Christian perspective rejects as scientifically and Biblically false the humanistic, evolutionary philosophy currently prevalent in most secular education. RBSB’s goal is to provide students the opportunity to develop a consistent, Bible based viewpoint in every field of study. This is not a narrow point of view. Rather, it allows for the recognition and explanation of all documented facts of science and history within their proper Biblical context. Interpretations which are contrary to this perspective (e.g. evolutionism and related humanistic philosophies) are not ignored. Rather, they are critically analyzed in order to test and substantiate the superiority of the Biblical framework.
Our programs meet the needs of busy laypersons, pastors, and missionaries at the entry level of education. This is regardless of their previous educational experience. Christians often feel called to gain a deeper knowledge of the Written and Living Word.
We believe that faithful Christian stewardship requires of all Christians the wise use of all the resources with which God has entrusted us, including our time and talents as well as our finances. Accordingly, Riverview Baptist School of the Bible programs are designed to provide the maximum in quality education, at the lowest possible cost. Added to this is a time commitment flexible enough to fit into the schedule of the busiest Christian worker, without causing his/her primary ministry to suffer.
Almost every course offered within the scope of a RBSB program provides the Christian worker with information and knowledge which can be used immediately in his/her present ministry. The current ministry of the student can become the “Life Laboratory,” or residency, in which to put into immediate practical use the theory learned in the class. RBSB accomplishes this through the research assignments. These are required in every course. This system provides the important balance of academic theory and research based implementation. It further redeems the time for active, effective ministry which would otherwise be lost to the student in the strictly academic process.
In addition to the academic standards, Riverview Baptist School of the Bible also requires appropriately high spiritual standards for our students. Our students must provide evidence of having received the Lord Jesus Christ as their Personal Savior, are expected to be affiliated with a local assembly of Believers, and be willingly compliant with the regulations of the school in all matters. The school reserves the right to dismiss any student who does not conduct him/herself in a consistent manner appropriate for one who bears the image of the Lord.
DOCTRINAL
STATEMENT
All members of the faculty and administration, as well as the curricular and other programs of Riverview Baptist School of the Bible, adhere to the following statement of convictions.
1. THE BIBLE
The divine plenary inspiration of the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments as originally given are infallible, authoritative, relevant, and free from error in all matters with which the scriptures deal.
2. SPECIAL CREATION
Through divine command, God brought the world and the universe with all its systems and kinds of living organisms into existence.
3. HISTORICITY
The historical and biblical record includes creation of spirit beings and man, Adam and Eve’s literal fall, the resultant sin and curse entering the world, and the diverse nations evolving from language difficulties at the Tower of Babel are truthful accounts.
4. THE TRINITY
The trinity is the triune Godhead existing as One, yet in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit and the Son share the same nature with the Father, who is eternal, transcendent, and sovereign, yet personal, immanent, loving, and faithful.
5. THE FATHER
God the Father, the first person of the Holy Trinity, is eternal, Creator of all things, unchangeable in all His attributes and sovereign Lord of the universe. He is worthy of praise, adoration, and obedience.
6 THE SON
Jesus Christ is fully God and was fully man, becoming one sinless, perfect, divine-human person through incarnation, miraculous conception, and virgin birth.
7. THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead who convicts, regenerates, baptizes, indwells, seals, guides and empowers every believer at the point of salvation. The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts and fills those persons who yield to Him and enables them to bear much fruit. Sign gifts were temporary and given to the early church for use until completion of the canon.
8. REDEMPTION
The substitutionary, literal, physical death of Jesus Christ on the cross for the sins of the world brought hope to the believer by His burial, resurrection and ascension into heaven. As He lives, so shall we also live.
9. SALVATION
Salvation from sin comes from God by grace and is received by personal faith in the reconciling death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
10. SATAN
Satan, called the devil or Lucifer, is a malignant being who is a deceiver, liar, tempter, and destroyer. Eternal punishment and torment will be not only for him, but also for all persons who reject Jesus Christ as Savior.
11. LAST THINGS
The imminent rapture of the church is when Christians meet Christ in the air. The personal, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth to judge, to purge sin and to establish His kingdom will conjugate all His purposes in the works of creation, redemption, rewards, and punishments.
12. THE CHURCH
The Church is a
fellowship of believers both local and universal. It is united by the Holy Spirit into one
redeemed Body of Christ and identified as the possession of Christ. As the Bride of Christ, the Church is to
build the local church by strengthening the saints and winning the lost through
evangelism.
For more detailed doctrinal statement, see Riverview Baptist Church constitution.
NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMINATORY
POLICY
Riverview Baptist School of the Bible does not discriminate on the basis of color, race, national and ethnic origin in admissions of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school administered programs. However, we do reserve the right to discriminate on the basis of sexual practice according to its beliefs.
RBSB expects all students, administrators, faculty, and staff to READ, STUDY, AND UNDERSTAND the following Code of Conduct. Each of these is based on Scripture.
RBSB believes that in this time of changing and controversial worldly philosophies, there is a huge imperative to encourage all of its constituents to walk in an ethical and moral lifestyle which is consistent with the Written Word, the Bible. Toward this end RBSB has established this Code of Conduct. It is not comprehensive. Rather, it is indicative of the lifestyle and conduct we expect of all persons associated with RBSB, inclusive of Board Members, Faculty, Staff, Students, and others who participate in the RBSB programs.
Neither situational ethics nor self-gratification should EVER determine the words, philosophy, or lifestyle of any individual. We believe the righteous standards of the Bible are the only basis for a successful and worthy life while on this planet and in this existence. Following are the guidelines we have determined for those associated with the school.
1. To recognize that the Lord must be the PREEMINENT person in our lives.
2. To set prayer, meditation, and Bible study as a mandatory portion of our existence.
3. To analyze the motives for a given action to determine if they are selfish, sinful or out of harmony with the principles of God’s Word.
4. To determine that the methods of a person are honest, moral, ethical, honorable, and fair.
5. To ensure that results are uplifting, wholesome, and good.
The totality of the RBSB “Essence” embodied in this Code of Conduct are found in the words of Jesus, where He says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart ... and love your neighbor as yourself.” This lifestyle creates a strengthened character, confidence borne of the Lord, and not of ones own self, a more moral society, and helps to build and strengthen the church of God.
Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action. All forms of hazing, disorderly conduct, cheating, stealing, lying, the homosexual and lesbian lifestyles, and other Biblically disallowed behavior, are unacceptable. Each and all are considered violations of the Code. Those who are accused of such infractions will first be called upon to appear before the Vice President or his representative. If disciplinary action is warranted, the violator will then appear before the Disciplinary Committee. Remedial action may include counseling sessions, service work, loss of privilege, disciplinary action, or even probation or dismissal from the school.
The Disciplinary Committee and administration reserve the right to amend or add any new regulations such as is necessary to safeguard the mission and purpose of this institution.
RBSB is affiliated with and is a ministry of Riverview Baptist Church, Ripplemead, VA It is the mission and ministry of RBSB to provide qualitative and quantitative educational programs to all persons who desire to study in order to better prepare themselves for a role in the ministry of Jesus Christ our Lord.

By the grace of God, Riverview Baptist School of the Bible charges very little tuition. We do, however, have costs related to the administrative functions of the school. Our Faculty and Staff receive honoraria only as students and others of God's people support the work of this ministry. The Scriptures are plain in their declaration that "the worker is worthy of his support" (Matthew 10:10); "So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the Gospel to get their living from the Gospel" (I Corinthians 9:14); "And let the one who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches" (Galatians 6:6).
Accordingly, in obedience to the principles of stewardship set forth in Scripture, students are expected to support the school by adhering to the following fee and tuition structure. We firmly believe that the Lord has brought those who enroll to RBSB. In this belief, we also believe He will provide you with the resources to pay for your education. If for some reason you believe that the Lord has led you to study with us but He has not shown you a clear way of supporting the school, please do not hesitate to contact the office of the Administration for assistance in seeking sources of funding. Donations above and beyond the following required fees and tuition are tax-deductible:
Registration Fee for each class is $25.00 per semester. Should a student’s spouse enroll in the same class, his/her fee is reduced to $12.50 per semester. There is no refund of fees. Students who wish to audit* any class may do so but will need to pay the normal fee. Hardship cases will be considered by the Administration on an individual basis. It is the desire of RBSB to provide a Biblically sound education to all qualified students.
*Audit means the student can attend any course without doing the assigned class work but will not receive any earned credit.
